| And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. | Ésta es la confianza que tenemos en él, que si pedimos alguna cosa conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye. |

| So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. | Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros. Dios es amor, y el que permanece en amor permanece en Dios y Dios en él. |

| We love because he first loved us. | Nosotros lo amamos a él porque él nos amó primero. |
| |
| If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. | Si alguno dice: «Yo amo a Dios», pero odia a su hermano, es mentiroso, pues el que no ama a su hermano a quien ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar a Dios a quien no ha visto? |

| If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | Si confesamos nuestros pecados, él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad. |

| See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. | Mirad cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios; por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no lo conoció a él. |

| Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. | Hijitos míos, no amemos de palabra ni de lengua, sino de hecho y en verdad. |

| And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. | Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquiera cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho. |

| For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. | Porque todo lo que es nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y ésta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo, nuestra fe. |

| No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. | Nadie ha visto jamás a Dios. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros y su amor se ha perfeccionado en nosotros. |
