- But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
- Pleasant words are as an honeycomb,
sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. - O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name:
make known his deeds among the people. - So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:
it shall not return unto me void,
but it shall accomplish that which I please,
and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. - A fool hath no delight in understanding,
but that his heart may discover itself. - Deliver my soul, O Lord,
from lying lips,
and from a deceitful tongue. - An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour:
but through knowledge shall the just be delivered. - Let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight,
O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. - A fool's lips enter into contention,
and his mouth calleth for strokes. - In all labour there is profit:
but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. - Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
- Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:
but a good word maketh it glad. - The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable:
but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness. - And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
- Keep thy tongue from evil,
and thy lips from speaking guile. - Put away from thee a froward mouth,
and perverse lips put far from thee. - It is an honour for a man to cease from strife:
but every fool will be meddling. - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
- For there is not a word in my tongue,
but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. - The tongue of the just is as choice silver:
the heart of the wicked is little worth. - When I kept silence, my bones waxed old
through my roaring all the day long. - He that hideth hatred with lying lips,
and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. - Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
- Blessings are upon the head of the just:
but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. - Open thy mouth, judge righteously,
and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
