Bible Verses about Materialism

  • For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
  • He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;
    Nor he who loves abundance, with increase.
    This also is vanity.
  • Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
  • For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
  • And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
  • Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
  • While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

    Feed me with the food allotted to me.
  • For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
  • Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
  • A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
    Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
  • He covets greedily all day long,
    But the righteous gives and does not spare.
  • Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
    But righteousness delivers from death.
  • Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.
  • Will you set your eyes on that which is not?
    For riches certainly make themselves wings;
    They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.
  • The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
    And like a high wall in his own esteem.

But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
