15 Bible Verses about the Sabbath

« Genesis 2:3 »
New Internation VersionKatolícky preklad
Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.I požehnal siedmy deň a zasvätil ho, lebo v ňom odpočíval od všetkých diel, ktoré Boh stvoril a urobil.
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Preto ho Pán požehnal a zasvätil ho.
Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do.Zachovávaj sobotňajší deň, aby si ho zasvätil, ako ti prikázal Pán, tvoj Boh. Šesť dní budeš pracovať a robiť každú svoju prácu, ale siedmy deň je sobota, (to jest odpočinok) pre Pána, tvojho Boha; vtedy nebudeš konať nijakú prácu ani ty, ani tvoj syn, ani tvoja dcéra, ani tvoj sluha, ani slúžka, ani tvoj vôl, ani osol, ani nijaký tvoj dobytok, ba ani cudzinec, ktorý býva v tvojich bránach, aby tvoj sluha a tvoja slúžka mali podobný odpočinok ako ty.
One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”V istú sobotu kráčal cez obilné pole.
On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.” The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?” When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.V sobotu učil v istej synagóge.
“How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”A o koľko viac je človek ako ovca! Teda v sobotu slobodno dobre robiť.
I am the Lord your God; follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.Ja som Pán, váš Boh, podľa mojich príkazov kráčajte a moje práva zachovávajte a konajte podľa nich! Zasväcujte moje soboty, nech sú znamením medzi mnou a medzi vami, aby ste vedeli, že ja som Pán, váš Boh.
“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.Ak zdržíš pre sobotu svoju nohu, aby si v môj svätý deň nerobil, čo sa ti zachce, a sobotu budeš volať rozkošou, svätý Pánov (deň) hodným úcty a uctíš si ho, že nebudeš konať svoje cesty, vypĺňať svoju vôľu a hovoriť reči: tak sa budeš kochať v Pánovi a dám ti vznášať sa nad výšinami zeme, nasýtim ťa dedičstvom tvojho otca Jakuba: lebo hovorili ústa Pánove.
One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.Lebo niekto robí rozdiel medzi dňom a dňom, iný nerozlišuje dni; len nech je každý úplne presvedčený o svojom.
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.
There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.Šesť dní budete konať svoju prácu, siedmy deň bude dňom úplného odpočinku so svätým zhromaždením. Vtedy nesmiete konať nijakú prácu, to je Pánova sobota, odpočinok vo všetkých vašich bydliskách.
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.Pamätaj, že si bol otrokom v egyptskej krajine a že ťa Pán, tvoj Boh, vyviedol odtiaľ mocnou pravicou a zdvihnutým ramenom: preto ti Pán, tvoj Boh, prikázal zachovávať sobotňajší deň.
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.Zachovávajte moju sobotu a majte v úcte moju svätyňu! Ja som Pán!
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.Usilujme sa teda vojsť do onoho pokoja, aby nik nepadol podľa toho istého príkladu neposlušnosti.
Bible verse of the day
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
