| For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. | For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s. |
| And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. | Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. |
| He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. | He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of Yahweh. |
| For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. | Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. |
| Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things. | As you don’t know what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child; even so you don’t know the work of God who does all. |
| And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. | This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. |
| He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. | Not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit. |
| The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. | Yahweh’s law is perfect, restoring the soul. Yahweh’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple. |
| True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life. | The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life. |
| And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. | Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. |
| I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. | As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me. |
| And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.” | He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, “All of you drink it, for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.” |
| So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. | The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. |
| For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. | To whom God was pleased to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. |
| But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. For you have been my high tower, a refuge in the day of my distress. |
| The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. | By Yahweh’s word, the heavens were made: all their army by the breath of his mouth. |
| For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. | For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. |
| Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. | Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to Yahweh’s law. |
| The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. | But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. |
| May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people. | The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with all the saints. Amen. |
| Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever! | The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! |
| Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. | Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Yahweh’s house forever. |
