- Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
- Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
- Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
- They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.
- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud;
then they forgot me. - Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings. - Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.
- “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
- Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin. - Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
- Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
- Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
- Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
- And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
- Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
- How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill? - When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
- Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
- Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
- So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
- If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.
- So then, banish anxiety from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigor are meaningless. - Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.
