you have purified us like silver. - You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself.

and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! - For you are my hiding place;
you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. - For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
- You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
- What are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them? - That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
- But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.

but even though he is just and righteous,
he does not destroy us. - Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident. - You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
- I said to the Lord, “You are my Master!
Every good thing I have comes from you.” - For you bless the godly, O Lord;
you surround them with your shield of love.
