Sin (3/5)

  • For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
  • For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
  • The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
  • Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.
  • But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.
  • God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
  • But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
  • I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
  • Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,
but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.
  • Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
  • Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
  • For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.
  • But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.
  • That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
  • You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
  • The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless,
but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
  • I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,
your sins like the morning mist.
    Return to me,
    for I have redeemed you.
  • Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
  • This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
  • This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
  • Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever
    but delight to show mercy.
  • I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
  • In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
  • What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

A wicked person earns deceptive wages,
but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
