Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. | And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. | The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. |
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. | I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. |
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. | And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. |
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. | Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. |
Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. | And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” | The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. |
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. | The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. |
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. | Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. |
Till the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. | Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. |
Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. | Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. |
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. | While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. |
