| And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. | This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. |
| We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. | We know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and he who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. |

He who fears is not made perfect in love. |
| For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. | For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. |
| Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. | My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth. |
| If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? | If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn’t love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? |
| And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. | And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. |
| See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. | See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him. |
