So we fasted and petitioned our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our pleading.

And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
I had eaten no rich food, no meat or wine had entered my mouth, and I had not anointed myself at all, for the full three weeks.I did not eat any tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all until the entire three weeks were completed.
