Law (2/5)

And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers. The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.For Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
If you love me, obey my commandments. If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.And keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.
For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces. The wise of heart will heed commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.
Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.
You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother. Love your neighbor as yourself. You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; also, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.Let it be known to you therefore, my brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you; by this Jesus everyone who believes is set free from all those sins from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.
That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for that is the whole duty of everyone.
My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare they will give you.
Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death. Those who keep the commandment will live; those who are heedless of their ways will die.
Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us.All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.
I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
You and I are Jews by birth, not ‘sinners’ like the Gentiles. Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law.
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them. They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.

I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.Well then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?
