So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. | While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. |
And do everything with love. | All that you do must be done in love. |
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. | But we all, with unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. |
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. | And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. |
Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. | For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose on their behalf. |
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. | Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. |
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. | Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. |
Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. | No one is to seek his own advantage, but rather that of his neighbor. |
Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” | Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” |
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. | The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law. |
For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. | For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. |
For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building. | For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. |
Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. | For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. |
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. | But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. | Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God. |
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. | But now faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love. |
But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband. | But because of sexual immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. |
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. | For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. |
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? | Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? |
So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. | For since by a man death came, by a Man also came the resurrection of the dead. |
No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. | For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. |
God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. | God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. |
God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. | If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. |
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” | But just as it is written: “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the human heart, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” |
Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all. | Sober up morally and stop sinning, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. |
