For you, O God, have put us to the test; you have purified us as silver is refined. | You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. |
My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When shall I come to behold the face of God? | I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? |
God abides in anyone who acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, and that person abides in God. | All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. |
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. | He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. |
As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning. | “As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning.” |
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. | But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. |
May the Lord, our God, be with us, just as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us or abandon us. | May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us. |
And take the helmet of salvation as well as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. | Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. |
Therefore, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God, since those who enter into God’s rest also cease from their own labors as God did from his. | So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. |
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow before me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” | For the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’” |
I do not set aside the grace of God, for if justification comes through the Law, then Christ died for nothing. | I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. |
We have come to know and to believe in the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him. | We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. |
Let us then make every effort to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall by following that example of refusing to believe. | So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. |
Rather, be kind to one another and compassionate, and forgive one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. | Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. |

Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. | Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. |
For who is God except the Lord? Who is a rock aside from our God? | For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? |
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. | Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. |
Come now and let us discuss this, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow. Though they are as red as crimson, they shall become as white as wool. | “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.” |

Each person should give as much as he has decided in his heart, not with reluctance or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. | You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” |
