By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. | As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. |
You must not covet your neighbor’s house. The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. | As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. |
What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. | Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. |
Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. | Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. |
The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. | Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. |
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. | That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love. |
Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others. | Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. |
Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. | Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. |
For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine. | He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. |
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. | Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. |
If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it. | He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. |
