To acquire wisdom is to love yourself; people who cherish understanding will prosper. | He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good. |
Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife. | House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh. |
Keep the commandments and keep your life; despising them leads to death. | He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die. |
You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. | There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail. |
Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest. | That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar. |
Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling. | It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling. |
