With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, ignoring its shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. | Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. |
Now we know that if the earthly tent in which we live is destroyed, we have a dwelling prepared for us by God, a dwelling in the heavens, not made with human hands, that will be eternal. | For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. |
For we brought nothing into this world, and we can take nothing out. If we have food and clothing, let us be content with these. | For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. |
This saying can be trusted: If we have died with him, we shall also live with him. | This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. |
Although we are human beings, we do not engage in battle according to human standards. | For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. |
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say: Rejoice! | Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! |
What then? Should we sin because we are not under the Law but under grace? Of course not! | What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! |
No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is made complete in us. | No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. |
Therefore, we love because he first loved us. | We love Him because He first loved us. |
For we will become partners with Christ only if we maintain firmly until the end the confidence we originally had. | For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end. |
Beloved, we are God’s children now. What we shall be has not yet been revealed. However, we do know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he really is. Everyone who has this hope in him keeps himself pure, just as he is pure. | Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. |
For we walk by faith, not by sight. | For we walk by faith, not by sight. |
Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that you will be able to hold fast on the evil day and to hold your ground with all your strength. | Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. |
Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we can approach God with confidence and receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do whatever is pleasing to him. | Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. |
For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more certain it is that, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. | For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. |
This is how we can be certain that we abide in him and that he abides in us: he has given us a share in his Spirit. | By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. |
Let us never grow weary in doing what is right, for if we do not give up, we will reap our harvest in due time. | And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. |
And thus we can have confidence in him that if we ask anything that is in accordance with his will, he hears us. | Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. |
Restore us, O Lord of hosts; let your face shine upon us, and we will be saved. | Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! |
For ‘In him we live and move and have our being.’ As even your own poets have said, ‘We are all his offspring.’ | For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ |
And now, dear children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be put to shame by him at his coming. | And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. |
We have sinned and done what is wrong, we have acted wickedly and rebelled, we have rejected your commandments and your laws. | We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. |
We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, since we are in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. | And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. |
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. | And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. |
Whenever you fast, do not assume a gloomy expression like the hypocrites who contort their faces so that others may realize that they are fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. | Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. |

Even though the fig tree does not blossomand there is no fruit on the vines,
even though the olive crop will fail
and the orchards will yield no food,
even though the flock is cut off from the fold
and there is no herd in the stalls,
I will continue to rejoice in the Lord,
and exult in the God of my salvation.Next verse! With image
