| You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. | You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. |
| So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” | So that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?” |
| Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. | If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. |
| Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet? | Or can a person walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched? |
| Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife. | House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord. |
| How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. | How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. |
| We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. | The mind of a person plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. |
| No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. | For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. |
| Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? | Do not be mismatched with unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness share together, or what does light have in common with darkness? |
| You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. | Many plans are in a person’s heart, But the advice of the Lord will stand. |
| For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. | I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. |
| I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? | My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God? |
| Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people! | A person’s gift makes room for him And brings him before great people. |
| Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. | Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. |
| You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it. | And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all. |
| I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. | Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. |
| The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. | And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not grasp it. |
| For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. | For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in faithfulness. |
| The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? | The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? |
| The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. | The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. |
| Tainted wealth has no lasting value, but right living can save your life. | Ill-gotten gains do not benefit, But righteousness rescues from death. |
| That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. | My mouth is filled with Your praise And with Your glory all day long. |
| Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. | Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. |
| Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. | An excellent wife, who can find her? For her worth is far above jewels. |
