| Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. | If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. | If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless. |
| Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. | Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. |
| So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. | Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. |

Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. |
| So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. | Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. |
