| Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!” | But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land? While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.” |
| Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. | Is any among you sick? | Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won’t fall over. Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good. | For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the ax. They deck it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it can’t move. They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak. They must be carried, because they can’t move. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good. |
| The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless. | The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth. |

| We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away. | The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. |
| He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. | That he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints. |
| The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. | The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish. |
| Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near. | Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! |
| Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children. | Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents. |
| Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. | The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. |
| The lips of the godly speak helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words. | The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse. |
| Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. | Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen. |
