All these evil things come from within and defile the person.”And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
A fool’s anger is known at once, But a prudent person conceals dishonor.Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent ignore an insult.
Avoiding strife is an honor for a person, But any fool will quarrel.It is honorable to refrain from strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.
Through overconfidence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.By insolence the heedless make strife, but wisdom is with those who take advice.
Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.Take care, brothers and sisters, that none of you may have an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord; ‘I will not look at you in anger. For I am gracious,’ declares the Lord; ‘I will not be angry forever.’Return, faithless Israel, says the Lord. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful, says the Lord; I will not be angry forever.
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
