Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times.” |
If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. | Now if your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have gained your brother. |
And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. | And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart. |
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another. | This is what the Lord of armies has said: ‘Dispense true justice and practice kindness and compassion each to his brother; and do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.’ |
