| In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.’ | And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. |
| Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. | For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. |

| Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. And even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. | Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. |
| As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. | As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. |

| Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you. | Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. |
| For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. | For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. |
| For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. | For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. |
| Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. | Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. |
| Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, passion fierce as the grave. | So then, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; for those who enter God's rest also cease from their labors as God did from his. | There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
