I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I look at a virgin? | I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman. |
I certainly believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. | Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. |
|
And if I give away all my possessions to charity, and if I surrender my body so that I may glory, but do not have love, it does me no good. | If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. |
Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, For You are my praise. | O Lord, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone! |
He must increase, but I must decrease. | He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. |
I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. | I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. |
I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. | I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. |
I will exalt You, my God, the King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever. | I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. |
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have nothing good besides You.” | I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” |
I have instructed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths. | I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths. |
Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful. | I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. |
Let me hear Your faithfulness in the morning, For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul. | Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. |
I will give thanks to You, Lord, among the peoples, And I will sing praises to You among the nations. | I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations. |
Protect me, God, for I take refuge in You. | Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. |
Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in distresses, in persecutions, in difficulties, in behalf of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong. | That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. |
‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord; ‘I will not look at you in anger. For I am gracious,’ declares the Lord; ‘I will not be angry forever.’ | O Israel, my faithless people, come home to me again, for I am merciful. I will not be angry with you forever. |
Because Your favor is better than life, My lips will praise You. So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. | Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. |
For I will be merciful toward their wrongdoings, And their sins I will no longer remember. | And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins. |
But I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified. | I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. |
Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. | Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. |
But as for me, I will be on the watch for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. | As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. |
I love the Lord, because He hears My voice and my pleas. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. | I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! |
Therefore Jesus said, “For a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then I am going to Him who sent Me.” | But Jesus told them, “I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.” |
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will advise you with My eye upon you. | The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” |
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. | My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. |
