A wise child brings joy to a father; a foolish child brings grief to a mother. | A wise son makes a glad father, But a foolish son is the grief of his mother. |
And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. | Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. |

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. | Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. |

And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful! | And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands. |
The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. | The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills. |
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. | A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. |
You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. | Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. |
You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. | There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand. |
May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. | May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose. |
When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. | When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed. |
