Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. | This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. |
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. | When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. |
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. | For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. |
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. | If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. |
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. | Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. |
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. | Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. |
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. | Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” |
