| Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. | Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. | There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. |
| But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. | Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. | Preach the word; be urgent in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching. |
| Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. | After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. | Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. | Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established. |
| Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. | Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths. |
| The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. | The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. |
| For I know that as you pray for me and the Spirit of Jesus Christ helps me, this will lead to my deliverance. | For I know that this will turn out to my salvation through your prayers and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. |
| But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside. | But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold. My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned away. |
| The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. | Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all. |
| Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. | Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. |
| I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. | When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your loving kindness, Yahweh, held me up. |
