| Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.” | And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen.” |
| What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” | What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” |
| You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. | You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’; and you are correct, for so I am. |
| It is a snare for one to say rashly, “It is holy,” and begin to reflect only after making a vow. | It is a trap for a person to say carelessly, “It is holy!” And after the vows to make inquiry. |
| So, if they say to you, ‘Look! He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look! He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. | So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. | Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. | Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. |
| But as for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine. | But as for you, proclaim the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. |

| You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. | You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. |
| From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” | From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” |
| Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.” | Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.” |
| You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it. | And if you say in your heart, ‘How will we recognize the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ When the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, and the thing does not happen or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you are not to be afraid of him. |
| Let your word be ‘Yes, Yes’ or ‘No, No’; anything more than this comes from the evil one. | But make sure your statement is, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil origin. |
| “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” | “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I wait for Him.” |
