Bible Verses about 'Vain'

Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain.Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.
I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless.If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.
For the customs of the peoples are false: a tree from the forest is cut down, and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan; people deck it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so that it cannot move. Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, nor is it in them to do good.Their ways are futile and foolish. They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol. They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won’t fall over. Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good.

Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
and speak the truth from their heart;
who do not slander with their tongue,
