‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ | For ‘In him we live and move and have our being.’ As even your own poets have said, ‘We are all his offspring.’ |
For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing. | That is why you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, and they devote themselves to this service. |
Looking at them, Jesus said, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” | Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” |
So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God, being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone. | As a result, you are no longer strangers and foreigners. Rather, you are fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. |
If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, which you are. | If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple. |

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. | For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh. They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want. |
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips. | The words of a wise man win favor, but a fool’s tongue is his undoing. |
My times are in your hand. Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me. | My life is in your hands; deliver me from the power of my enemies, from the clutches of those who pursue me. |
For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members don’t have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. | For just as in one body we have many parts, and the parts do not all have the same function, so we, though many, make up one body in Christ, and individually we are all parts of one another. |
You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. | You are a place of refuge for me; you preserve me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah |
Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. | Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake. |

God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist, that no flesh should boast before God. | God chose those in the world who were lowly and despised, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who were regarded as worthy, so that no one could boast in the presence of God. |
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. | Ever since the creation of the world the invisible attributes of God’s eternal power and divine nature have been clearly understood and perceived through the things he has made.
