I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. | I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. |
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. | God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. |
|
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. | And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. |
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” | Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” |
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. | So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. |
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known. | No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us. |
Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents. | In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents. |
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. | Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. |
Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. | That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. |
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” | Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” |
Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. | Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. |
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations. | Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. |
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. | Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes. |
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. | A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. |
Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God. | Therefore, tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: No more delay! I will now do everything I have threatened. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!’ |
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” | Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” |
I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. | I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. |
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” | Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” |
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. | So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. |
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? | Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? |
But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’ | This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’ |
For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live. | I don’t want you to die, says the Sovereign Lord. Turn back and live! |
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. | I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. |
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” | For the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’” |
And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. | And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. |
