Wealth is a ransom for a person's life, but the poor get no threats.A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats.
With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me?With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me?
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in mortals.It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to place your trust in mortals.
To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone, and a word in season, how good it is!A man is joyful when he utters apt answers, and even more satisfying is a word in season.
Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments.Alleluia. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his precepts.
He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord.One who finds a wife finds happiness and receives favor from the Lord.
For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? How much more valuable is a human being than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the sabbath.How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
Or can one walk on hot coals without scorching the feet?Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet?
All deeds are right in the sight of the doer, but the Lord weighs the heart.A man’s ways may seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.
It is honorable to refrain from strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.It is honorable to avoid strife, but every fool is quarrelsome.
It is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice.The future bodes well for him who is generous in helping those in need and who conducts his affairs with justice.
So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”Therefore, we can say with confidence: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”
Each of you, however, should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband.However, each one of you should love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife should respect her husband.
Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and of people.Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you; fasten them around your neck and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will gain favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
The clever see danger and hide; but the simple go on, and suffer for it.The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter, while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty.
How happy is the one whom God reproves; therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.
In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.In the same way, husbands should love their wives as they do their own bodies. The man who loves his wife loves himself.
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers.Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the company of scoffers.
The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.A man may plan his own course, but the Lord makes his steps secure.
So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.
Fools show their anger at once, but the prudent ignore an insult.A fool is quick to show his anger, but a prudent man ignores an insult.
Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.Jesus said to him, “Go on your way! Your faith has made you well.” Immediately, he received his sight and followed him along the road.

Some friends play at friendship but a true friend sticks closer than one's nearest kin.Some friends can lead us to ruin, but a true friend is closer than a brother.
