| I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. | I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. |

| Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. | The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. | I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. | I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. |
| Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! | Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! |
| For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. | For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. |
| This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. | Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him. |
| What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? | What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? |
| No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. | No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. |
| For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. | For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. |
| What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! | What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! |
