You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. | Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. |
And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! | And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? | Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? |
Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” | Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” |
But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. | But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. |
Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” | Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” |
The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. | The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. |
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. | For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. |
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. | When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. |
I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ. | Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? |
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever. |
For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. | For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. |
I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! | These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. |
I never shrank back from telling you what you needed to hear, either publicly or in your homes. | How I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house. |
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. | Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. |
And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. | And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. |
If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him! | If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him. |
For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. | You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. |
If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. | You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. |
You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. | Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. |
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. | And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. |
In those days when you pray, I will listen. | Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. |
And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. | And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. |
I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. | Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save. |
Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy. | You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess. |
