Bible Verses about Speaking

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Everyone enjoys a fitting reply; it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time!To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is!
A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
Wise words bring approval, but fools are destroyed by their own words.The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him.
A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.
And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.
That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long.My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day.
Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
