Speaking (2/3)

When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. In praying, don’t use vain repetitions as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples.Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples.
So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.So is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing personal opinion.A fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion.
Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.
A fool's lips bring strife, and a fool's mouth invites a flogging.A fool’s lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.
In all toil there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up.Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad.
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies.
It is honorable to refrain from strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.
Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly.Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the mind of the wicked is of little worth. The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth.
While I kept silence, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
Lying lips conceal hatred, and whoever utters slander is a fool.He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool.
If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless. If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
Jesus answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.”Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it would be done.”
For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. For with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.

When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
