For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. | For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. |
And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. | Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? |
And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. |
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. | The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. |
I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. | These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. |
And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. | This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. |
And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. | And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. |
And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life. | And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. |
Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts. | Little children, guard yourselves from idols. |
