Bible Verses about Marriage

  • The man who finds a wife finds a treasure,
and he receives favor from the Lord.
  • “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
  • Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
  • Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.
  • Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
  • For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.
  • We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.
  • But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.
  • Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
  • A newly married man must not be drafted into the army or be given any other official responsibilities. He must be free to spend one year at home, bringing happiness to the wife he has married.
  • Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.
    “At last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone,
    and flesh from my flesh!
    She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
  • You are altogether beautiful, my darling,
    beautiful in every way.
  • For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church.
  • The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.
  • In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
  • As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”
  • In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.
  • Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
  • So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
  • You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.
  • But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.
