Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. | Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. |
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. | Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. |

If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. | For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. |
So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God. | I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. |
Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” | But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. |
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. | Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. |
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. | The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. |
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. | If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. |
So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. | For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. |
All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. | Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. |
There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. | There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. |
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. | Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. |
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. | What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. |
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. | Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. |
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. | Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. |
Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” | Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. |
For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ | For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. |
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. | I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. |
People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed. | He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. |
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. | He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. |
And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? | For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? |
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. | All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. |
My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life. | Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. |
Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you. | Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. |
But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. | But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. |
