Materialism (2/2)

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? If anyone is rich in worldly possessions and sees a brother in need but refuses to open his heart, how can the love of God abide in him?
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. No one can serve two masters. For you will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”The Lord is my portion, I say to myself; therefore, I will place my hope in him.
Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything. As sorrowful, and yet we are always rejoicing; as poor, and yet we make many rich; as having nothing, and yet we possess everything.
The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealth—except perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers! When riches increase, so do those who are eager to accumulate them, and those who have accumulated them must remain content simply to feast their eyes on them.
Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind. Then I came to realize that all toil and skill in work derive from one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chase after the wind.
John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”
The rich can pay a ransom for their lives, but the poor won’t even get threatened.A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats.
You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, nor his oxen, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.
But when you had eaten and were satisfied, you became proud and forgot me.When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart and quickly forgot me.

Bible verse of the day

Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.
And everyone will see him—
even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world
will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen!
