Matthew 5 - NLT & NASB

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill.
I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!
So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. Now if your right eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool. And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. But I say to you, take no oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.But make sure your statement is, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil origin.
But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Therefore you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
