| This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’ | Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another. |
| If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? | How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? |

| Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. | Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. |
| If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. | For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. |
| And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ | And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ |
