Bible Verses about Poverty

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”Jesus replied, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.I know how to live with little, and I know how to live with plenty. In any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need.
Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy.Speak out and pronounce righteous judgments; defend the rights of the wretched and the poor.
In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.Diligent labor always yields profit, but idle conversation only leads to poverty.
Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.Grant justice to the weak and the orphan; defend the rights of the lowly and the poor.
As sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things. As sorrowful, and yet we are always rejoicing; as poor, and yet we make many rich; as having nothing, and yet we possess everything.
Yahweh makes poor and makes rich. He brings low, he also lifts up.The Lord makes poor and makes rich, he humbles and he also exalts.
He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”
Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, ‘Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother. Don’t oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render fair judgments, and show kindness and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor. Do not plot evil in your heart against one another.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender. The wealthy man lords it over the poor, and the borrower becomes the slave of the lender.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?Who then can separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword?
This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. In my anguish I cried out; the Lord heard my plea, and I was saved from all my troubles.
Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me.Keep falsehood and lying far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but simply provide me with the food that I need.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor hear no threats.A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats.
That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.A man’s attraction is his kindness; it is far better to be poor than to be a liar.
Because I delivered the poor who cried, and the fatherless also, who had no one to help him, the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.Because I delivered the poor who appealed for help and the orphan who had no one to protect him. The blessing of the wretched was given to me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
If I give away all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing. If I give away everything to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but do not have love, I achieve nothing.
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free.
The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed, to strengthen the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity and release to those who have been imprisoned.
Arise, Yahweh! God, lift up your hand! Don’t forget the helpless.Arise, O Lord! Lift up your hand, O God! Do not forget the afflicted.
