| The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it? “I, Yahweh, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.” | The heart is devious above all else; it is perverse— who can understand it? | Who has worked and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Yahweh, the first, and with the last, I am he. | Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, am first, and will be with the last. |
| Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts. | All deeds are right in the sight of the doer, but the Lord weighs the heart. |

| How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? | How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! |
| Therefore leaving the teaching of the first principles of Christ, let’s press on to perfection—not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God, of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. | Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ, and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. |
