While experiencing temptation, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. | And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. |
Those who live according to the flesh can never be pleasing to God. | That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. |
Hence, be imitators of God, as beloved children. | Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. |
Surely God is my helper; the Lord is the one who sustains me. | But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive! |
However, God has revealed these things to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit explores everything, even the depths of God. | But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. |

Therefore, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God, since those who enter into God’s rest also cease from their own labors as God did from his. | So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. May God continue to bless us and be revered to the ends of the earth. | Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him. |
Beloved, since God loved us so much, we should love one another. | Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. |
God is our refuge and our strength, a well-proved help in times of trouble. | God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. |
As a deer longs for running streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. | As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. |
For you, O God, have put us to the test; you have purified us as silver is refined. | You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. |
O God, you are my God, for whom I have been searching earnestly. My soul yearns for you and my body thirsts for you, like the earth when it is parched, arid and without water. | O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. |
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a resolute spirit within me. | Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. |
