Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”Then he said to all who were with him, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.When things are going well, be grateful for your blessings, and in times of adversity consider this: God has made both of them, so that we cannot predict with confidence what the future holds.
Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost.It is rash to pledge a sacred gift, or to make a vow and then have second thoughts.
True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.The reward of humility and fear of the Lord is wealth, honor, and life.
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.Therefore, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God, since those who enter into God’s rest also cease from their own labors as God did from his.

Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.While physical training has some value, the benefits of godliness are unlimited, since it holds out promise not only for this life but also for the life to come.
Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.Do I derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? asks the Lord God. Would I not rather rejoice to see them turn away from their wickedness and live?
