For just as lightning comes from the east and is visible even in the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. | So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. |
Why do you take note of the splinter in your brother’s eye but do not notice the wooden plank in your own eye? | Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? |
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord shine his face upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace. | The Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord cause His face to shine on you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His face to you, And give you peace. |
The one who eats everything must not look contemptuously on the one who does not, and the one who abstains must not pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed both. | The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. |
Whenever you fast, do not assume a gloomy expression like the hypocrites who contort their faces so that others may realize that they are fasting. Be on your guard that you do not lose what we have worked to accomplish so that you will receive your reward in full. | Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. |
