Which one of you, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has sufficient funds for its completion?For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?
In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
In the netherworld, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham, far off, and Lazarus by his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames.’And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ ”
If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. The tax collector, however, stood some distance away and would not even raise his eyes to heaven. Rather, he kept beating his breast as he said, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
He replied, “What is impossible for men is possible for God.”But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save what was lost.For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you. Do this in memory of me.”And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be poured out for you.”Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.
He cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And with these words he breathed his last.And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
He is not here. He has been raised. Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee: that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified and rise again on the third day.He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up to heaven.And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.”Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
For nothing will be impossible for God.For with God nothing will be impossible.
Joseph therefore went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David. He went to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was expecting a child.Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.”Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.”
For this day in the city of David there has been born to you a Savior who is Christ, the Lord.For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to all those on whom his favor rests.Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!
And the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as they had been told.Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”He answered and said to them, “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.”
After John had baptized all the people, and while Jesus was engaged in prayer after also having been baptized, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.”When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil. During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was famished.Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
