For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the sake of the gospel will save it. | For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. |
You are truly my rock and my fortress; for the sake of your name, lead and guide me. | For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me. |
|
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. | He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. |
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. | For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. |
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. | For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. |
Help us, O God, our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and wipe away our sins for your name’s sake. | Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name’s sake! |
For this reason, I rejoice when I endure weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and distress for the sake of Christ. For it is when I am weak that I am strong. | Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. |
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake. | Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. |
Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. | Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
He made him who did not know sin to be sin for our sake, so that through him we might become the righteousness of God. | For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
Jesus answered, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive in this age a hundred times more houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and lands—as well as persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.” | So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.” |
Be mindful, O Lord, that mercy and kindness have been yours from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my many transgressions, but remember me in your kindness, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. | Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. |
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your kindness and faithfulness. | Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth. |
Yet even if you should suffer for doing what is right, you are thereby blessed. Have no fear of others, and refuse to be intimidated by them. | But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” |
For it has been granted you not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him. | For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake. |
Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your kindness. | Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies’ sake. |
Blessed are you when people hate you and ostracize you, when they insult you and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. | Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man’s sake. |
With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, ignoring its shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. | Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. |
The end of all things is near. Therefore, lead disciplined lives and be watchful in prayer. | But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. |
Rather, be kind to one another and compassionate, and forgive one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. | And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. |
For God would not be so unjust as to ignore your work and the love that you have shown for his name by the services you have rendered to the saints and still continue to render. | For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. |
Yet even so, because of your great compassion, you did not completely destroy them, nor did you forsake them, for you are a gracious and merciful God. | Nevertheless in Your great mercy You did not utterly consume them nor forsake them; For You are God, gracious and merciful. |
I am pulled in opposite directions. My desire is to depart and to be with Christ, for that is far better, but, it is a more urgent need for you that I remain in the body. | For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. |
The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise, as some think in terms of delay, but he is patient with you. It is not his wish that any should perish but rather that all should be brought to repentance. | The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. |
For the love of Christ urges us forward, once we conclude that one has died for all, and therefore all have died. And he died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for him who for their sakes died and was raised to life. | For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. |
