| If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he hates his brother or sister, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. | If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? |
| A prudent person sees evil and hides himself; But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty. | A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. |
| For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. |
